TV Station FSTV-20 - Corner Store - Library - Gift & Craft Shop

FSTV-20 (Foxwood Springs Television - Channel 20) is the in-house closed-circuit TV station, which serves as the communication center of our community.  We are one of the few retirement communities offering this service.  The equipment was recently updated to reflect the latest in computer technology.

Operated by resident volunteers, FSTV-20 provides continuous announcements of community interest plus a variety of programs. These include interviews, informational presentations by experts, legislators, and human interest stories taped off-campus.  The TV studio programs are planned and produced by resident volunteers.

The Rolling News, which runs around the clock seven days a week, is a series of separate messages of interest to residents including announcements about upcoming events.  Once daily the rolling news is read by a volunteer.

Each day, Monday thru Friday, there is a forty-five minute morning show called The Foxwood Connection.  The show features a wide variety of topics such as devotions, reading the day’s activities and a special feature.  Some shows are taped on location, but more often residents, staff and special guests are interviewed.  Our guests are often local officials, state representatives, public health and safety experts and local business people as well as Foxwood Staff giving updates on items of general interest.

The Foxwood Connection is shown again in the afternoon as well as the evening, with the evening showing followed by fifteen minutes of quiet time pictures.

The FSTV-20 daily schedule also includes an Exercise Program, the reading of announcements for the sight impaired, and an evening Quiet Time.  Each evening, the morning half hour show is rebroadcast.

A fixture from the beginning, this convenience store is operated by resident volunteers.

No need to go to a shopping center.  The Corner Store stocks regular grocery and housekeeping items as well as soft drinks, gift items, greeting cards and even postage stamps.

Hot coffee, tea, cappuccino, pastries, deli sandwiches and fresh popcorn make the store a popular gathering place for residents.

Residents, staff and employees often buy their lunches and snacks at the store.

A Special Order Service lets residents request items that can be delivered the next day.

The Foxwood Springs library contains over 12,000 hard back and large print books, as well as many paperbacks. Video tapes are also available for the residents’ use. The library also subscribes to a number of magazines and newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal.

Audio tapes and magnifiers for reading are available for the sight-impaired and a wide variety of encyclopedias, atlases and dictionaries can be found in the reference section of the library. In addition, a special section of the library is devoted to displays which depict current and historical events.

The library is run by volunteers who catalogue all books and see that they are properly refilled.

Gift & Craft Shop

Arranging displays in the Gift Shop. Click for enlarged view, then BACK.This lovely shop had a very humble beginning, with a group of women who wanted a place to do various crafts.  It started out small, but as interest grew, more tables and shelves were added. Craft and gift items soon filled these tables and shelves.

Everything has been donated by Foxwood Springs residents.  Resident volunteers work in the craft room or in their homes to produce the items sold. A variety of infant items such as baby sweaters, booties and blankets are available for sale. You’ll also find many useful things like knitted caps, mittens, scarves and lap robes, as well as all kinds of craft items.  We create beautiful flower arrangements which have become one of our “best sellers.”  Floral arrangements can be made to your specifications.

The craft room is now a successful gift shop –
a place to come, shop and buy
(and test out one of the jigsaw puzzles donated to the Gift Shop).

The Gift and Craft room is a successful part of the Foxwood Springs community.  It is a place to come to shop, to learn or to buy.  Classes are available for those who want to learn a new craft.  There are tables to work on, sewing machines to use, craft supplies to purchase and volunteers to assist you.

The proceeds from the shop go to help provide support for the Fellowship of John program that makes available financial assistance for residents who have outlived their resources and need help in covering the full cost of their care.  CLICK HERE to jump to the page with more details about Fellowship of John.
