Biographical Notes on Bob Woolrich

Robert (Bob) Woolrich began his tenure at Foxwood Springs on April 2, 2007.  Bob comes to us after serving as CEO of Aldersgate Village in Topeka, Kansas.  A native of Mt. Vernon, NY, Bob served in the U.S. Army for three years after high school.  He earned an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Westchester Community College in Valhalla, NY in 1968; a Bachelor of Arts in U.S. History from Amherst College in Amherst, MA in 1970; and a Masters of Science in Health Administration from the School of Public Health, University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1976.

After graduate school, Bob was employed in various capacities by the Western Massachusetts Health Planning Council in West Springfield, MA, where he was responsible for setting up a regional office and for conducting Certificate of Need and grant reviews for a four county area for six years.  He then took a position as Chief Operating Officer at Western Massachusetts Hospital in Westfield, MA, a position that he held for over eleven years.  There, in addition to his overall responsibility for day-to-day operations, he helped to establish an inpatient hospice program, an AIDS hospice program, and an outpatient head injury program.

In 1991, Bob accepted a position as the founding Executive Director of Applewood at Amherst, a small Continuing Care Retirement Community in Amherst, MA.  At Applewood, he worked with nursing staff and the local VNA/Hospice to establish a home care program to assist residents to remain in their independent living apartments as long as possible.  After eight years, he collaborated in merging Applewood with another small CCRC in order to enhance the chance for both to survive among larger competitors.  After a brief stint assisting with the merger of five home health agencies and three hospice programs, Bob accepted a position as Executive Director of Kendal at Hanover in Hanover, NH.  After nearly five years there, Bob and his wife, Noeline, decided to seek out a warmer climate.  That search brought him to Topeka and, finally, to Foxwood Springs.

Bob is married to the former Noeline Sullivan of Yonkers, NY.  They celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary in November 2007.  Noel is a registered nurse and worked during her professional life in Emergency Medicine.  She has managed two Emergency Departments and an ambulance service.  She was also clinical director of a hospice program in Vermont and New Hampshire for three years.  During the summers, she volunteers at a camp for children with cancer sponsored by Paul Newman in Connecticut.
