A Variety of Activities and Opportunities Encourage You to “DO YOUR THING”:

Book Repair Workshop

Foxwood Springs is fortunate to have a library with over 12,000 volumes for its residents’ reading enjoyment.  It is also fortunate to have several resident volunteers who are skilled at repairing books which require a bit of “tender loving care”!  Books with the binding torn and pages falling out are given a new lease on life through a special process in which the binding is secured with string and glued in place.  The process is completed with the installation of a new spine on the book.  Resident Jack Gill developed the process used for repairing the books and all of the work is done in a specially designed workshop right on the Foxwood campus!

Roger and Shirley complete the repair process by installing a new spine on the book.

Volunteer Program

The Resident Volunteer Program at Foxwood Springs is a vital part of this community’s daily life.  There are no age limits for volunteers - in fact, age is no barrier to the desire to “get up and do.”  We are convinced that active service to others increases one’s own longevity.

There are hundreds of resident volunteers at Foxwood Springs, who volunteer thousands of hours of service every year.

Each year volunteers organize and carry out the annual Fall Festival of Bargains, which draws crowds from all over the Kansas City area.  It is Cass County’s largest rummage sale.  The Fall Festival of Bargains helps to provide support for the Fellowship of John program that makes available financial assistance for residents who have outlived their resources and need help in covering the full cost of their care.  CLICK HERE to jump to the page with more details about Fellowship of John and look at News & Events for more details about the Fall Festival.

Volunteers use their skills and knowledge for every activity imaginable.  There is a wide range of physical activities on a daily basis as well as social, educational and spiritual life activities.  These are carried out throughout the year.  Two examples of volunteer activities are:

  • The library is run by volunteers who catalogue all books and see that they are properly refilled.

  • The TV studio programs are planned and produced by resident volunteers.

Foxwood Springs is an active retirement center where the residents provide the best possible way to age gracefully through their own vigorous volunteer program.

Garden plots (20 feet x 30 feet) are available to all residents.

We even have a green house.  It’s great to be able to keep our more delicate plants safe there through the winter months.  Fresh vegetables are put on a table near the apartments when the gardeners produce more than they can use.
